18606 - The importance of the marine plots

Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias

The importance of the marine plots of both the Greek and the Cypriot EEZ, is not merely economic, as some wish to believe. The marine plots are a direct way to enhance our EEZ, therefore our sovereign rights, as through them we form a geostrategic chessboard, which gives us new opportunities and prospects regarding our national issues.
The EEZ is not an issue either for Greece or Cyprus, but a right that constitutes the spearhead for Hellenism, who knows what is the substancial meaning of Thalassostrategy.
We can not therefore degenerate the entire EEZ issue, to a simple economic parameter, not for Greece and or Cyprus.
So, the marine plots are not just potential contracts.
Because, such agreements are changing the status of the region, as that becomes upgraded simply by the presence of the partner.
In the case of Greece, the twenty marine plots of its EEZ , have been published in the official journal of the European Union and are recognized as Greek, by the 28 member states, a factor which offers prestige to our country, when it comes to making international negotiations and agreements.
In this manner we prove, that we have a strong position in the Ionian Sea, in the Peloponnese and south of Crete and therefore we highlight our high strategy also in Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Consequently, even though we have changed political party data at the national level, we should be consistent and must continue the necessary tasks for our homeland.
This consistency will also be obvious, by our decisions at an international level, in regards to the twenty marine plots, but also the utilisation of the Greek EEZ issue in general, where we follow the example of Cyprus without any more delays and further bureaucratic obstacles.
