22513 - When you are able to see. (Monologue)
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
– When you are able to see, even in the dark, the inertia of the public which has no sympathy towards the actor, who is torn apart on stage in order to perform the author’s work with efficiency, then, why do you need the lights of the theater?
In order to observe the faces of social betrayal?
In order to observe the firing squad of indifference?
Can’t you see that they didn’t make a sound for as long as she was talking and she was swearing at them, because she was remembering the past which had tormented her all these years.
They were all hidden within the darkness, so that it couln’t be obvious that they hadn’t even shed tears with what Miss Margarida had told them about her life, which in actual fact was death, for her lusts which became passions, for her needs which had turned into despair, because the junta of nihilism had not allowed her to see freedom, but only behind the bars of a prison which they called bars of order.
As a result, her social-class struggle involved only sixth grade children, as high school was forbidden because she was unable to denude herself in the classroom, in front of the students, due to fraternity.
Therefore, her cries and her anxiety attacks remained silent, as far as that concerned the ears of an audience which did not want to take a look in her mirror, so as not to see its own face disfigured like the picture of Dorian Gray.
The truth was black, and the light wouldn’t have changed anything for you.
You were alone amongst an audience which was suffering because it assumed that this life was a theatrical play, without realizing that it would not participate due to its incompetence to observe the suffering of the actor who can not stand anything more, following the direction of an absolute life, which was dedicated by the author to the disobedience towards a system which died without leaving any work behind.
