The Tudor conquest
of Ireland
led to colonization
by settlers
from Britain.
But as this
was insufficient
in the 1890s
a system
of Protestant English rule
was designed
to materially
disadvantage
the Catholic
majority
but also
the Protestant
dissenters.
It was
a religious
barbarity.
