The discovery of the hypergiant Zohr reserve by ENI in the Egyptian EEZ, is not only of commercial value, but also scientific as well, in the sense that it teaches us to opt for new event horizons, as we now see, that after the drilling that took place at 4,131 meters locating natural gas, we also have oil at 5,000 meters.
But with this discovery we are other extensions, because it occurred within a context of karst limestones and not just psammites (sandstones).
The pyrolytic gas reserves are based on other models, in deeper horizons, whereas, we know that, the mud volcanoes at the higher Messinian altitudes, are still steaming up biogenic gas.
The discovery of the Zohr reserve, indicates the way for the south of Crete researches. Because within the messinian lagoons,

other reserves of the Zohr type will be found.
The reserve indicates, that there are other stocks there, which were not calculated because they belonged to another model.
Now, after this discovery, we have new perspectives, and as far as Greece is concerned, quite clearly everything points out to the area south of Crete.
In fact, even on the map that displays the Minos reserve, we see that there is a potential of karstic limestone presence.

Therefore we comprehend, that the points where there are lagoons, could be fields of detection of reserves of this type, and this will have repercussions throughout the Mediterranean,

but especially in the Levantine basin and South of Crete

their presence is of tremendous importance in regards to the developments in the hydrocarbons sector and the positions of both Greece and Cyprus in the region.
In other words, in this manner areas are specified as target reserves, to which we must give priority in regards to researches for natural gas.
Fields of this type exist both in the Cypriot EEZ, and the EEZ of Greece.
And in the case of Greece, the most important one is located south of Crete and more specifically, right where we have the nine marine plots of the Greek EEZ.
Therefore, our strategic path is now open thanks to Zohr.
