9501 - Abjection of political thought

Whenever there are serious national issues at stake, the abjection of political thought appears. We had a clever example in Cyprus in the past with the reactions against Tassos Papadopoulos. While he was the President of Cyprus who achieved its accession to the European Union and the Eurozone, right after the rejection of the Annan Plan, and the one who succeeded in establishing the Cypriot EEZ and the agreement with Lebanon, but additionally the French-Cypriot coalition, during the next elections he failed to pass on to the second round. The degradation of the Cypriot political thought focused exclusively upon internal problems which of course had nothing to do with the occupied territories, the missing persons, the enclaved and or the refugees. Consequently, the partisanly approach was able to eradicate Tassos Papadopoulos. Now in Greece we hear discussions literally regarding politicking details been transformed into dominant debates, as if there are no serious national issues in existence. In these coming elections, the only criterion which realy makes sense is the issue of the Exclusive Economic Zone. And if we don’t handle it with care and persistence, we will succeed into artificially transforming insignificant issues into substantial ones. A simple example is the issue of the Euro. We have no desire to depart from the eurozone and of course the same applies to our European partners. Which in actual fact means that there is no problem with this issue whatsoever. Additionally, there is no legislation which allows the withdrawal from the eurozone without the departure from the European Union. Yet again there are people, and experts at that, who are discussing this issue as if it was indeed substantial. In a context at which it doesn’t seem likely for a self-reliant goverment to surface as a scenario, it would be more effective at a strategic level, to know which political parties actually want to establish the Greek EEZ, and enter the utilization process, in order to know which would be pro a rational policy alliance of a national range. Otherwise all of the rest are merely for elections purposes alone. We must overcome this abjection of political thought, if we really want to help our homeland come to growth, and become an important geopolitical player, in order for us to leave this crisis behind as quickly as possible.
