9465 - EEZ and the allied context
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
In order o overcome our internal difficulties, it is necessary to find an allied context, which is beyond political parties. If we get trapped into an internal struggle, in order to gain just precentage increases, it’s more likely to find ourselves in a situation similar to the previous one. The elections, which are by nature competitive, could not remain at this level. Our problem is not just the economy, the corruption, etc. These are always a factor in every society that gives substance only to the present. The real problem is, that most Greeks do not see towards the future, because all of their institutions are forcing them to forget their past.
Those who resist are rare and this is due to their visions. Whoever has no vision, does not function strategically and relates exclusively to everydayness. He has the impression that he has no options and that life is just a one way street, so through a political party he is trying to cope a little better.
With the Exclusive Economic Zone issue, the data of everydayness has changed. First of all, there is an actionfront, a task force, which wants to establish the EEZ even though there are enemies with great interests, who want our country to live in misery.
Furthermore, there are many who are indifferent and do not understand what is the real purpose of the whole endeavour. And of course there are the enemies of natural gas and oil, who want to function with imports, without the development of our country. It is the first time, that a debate of this magnitute is part of the political agenda. And it’s not related to the topic of the European Union and the euro, since it is clear that our country acquired and obtained both . Whereas, on the contrary, the Greek EEZ does not exist yet. There is no related plan, but even if there was, we know how to withstand that as well.
It is a structure, an open structure, that offers multiple capabilities.
In these elections we do not decide only regarding the present, but also for the future.
The EEZ is not just a great idea, it’s a new chessboard. We will no longer be, the small players of the Mediterranean, who is trying to survive due to the aid of the large forces, wherever they may be situated.
With the EEZ, our entity acquires a dimension and nobody can challenge it abroad. We have the second largest EEZ in the Mediterranean, but in addition, the Eastern Mediterranean, as already indicated by Cyprus and Israel, is one of the richest regions in the world in regards to it’s subsoil energy.
We may have some politicians who have not realized it yet, but it’s just a matter of time!
Without the EEZ we are merely dealing with local details, which can not solve any serious problem. We need our politicians to focus on this issue and the easiest way is for them to be selected by us, in order for them to act quickly and efficiently for our country as a whole.
