19119 - The role of Hellenism re: the islands
N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias
The role of Hellenism in regards to the islands is not only the existence and tourism, otherwise we will have heavy losses on the boarder islands. It’s not enough to have our own people on the islands, if we don’t practically support them, and we merely symbolically do so.
Their health, their body and their spirit should not leave us indifferent, because without those they have no future.
Reality is quite different though, since they already have a past.
In this context we should act, in order to enhance them. Here, what naturally comes into action, is medicine, physical training, nutrition and of course Paedia, the spiritual one. Because, people who have learned the foundations in these fields, can improve their endurance and not be so dependent on external factors.
The aim of Hellenism in regards to the islands, is not moralistic, which in any case would be artificial, as the inhabitants live with their data for centuries on. Simply their resistances have been reduced by pressures applied upon them.
So this is all about an innovative Paedia which we aquire, in order for them to learn how to learn, and not merely to learn.
This difference is what makes the difference, since there should not be a dependance resulting, because we are reffering to islands. We are in need therefore, of a holistic approach which doesn’t easily degenerate under adverse conditions. So, we are not reffering in any case to some championship, as that will always depend on one’s individual initiative, here we opt for free people, capable of producing accomplishments, because this is the essence of the future.
