72733 - On the necessity of recognition of the genocide

Ν. Λυγερός

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine characterizes as genocide the invasion of Russian forces. As the sole legislative body of Ukraine, it condemned the official policy of Russian Federation which tries to identify the Ukrainian patriotism with a misanthropic ideology and the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation against civilians which are committed with the intent to destroy a national group. The acts of genocide are the perpetration of mass atrocities in the temporarily occupied territories. The Russian forces committed murders, enforced disappearances, imprisonments, tortures, rapes and also transfers of Ukrainian children to territories of Russia. For these reasons it declares that it recognizes as an act of genocide against Ukraine, the actions committed by the Russian Forces and their political leadership during the most resent phase of the military aggression. The legislative body appeals to the United Nations but also governments and parliaments of foreign states to recognize this act of genocide committed on the territory of Ukraine.
