46404 - The issue of Northern Epirus

N. Lygeros
Translated from the Greek by Athina Kehagias

The issue of Northern Epirus
is directly concerning Italian politics
which wanted to give Albania
as big a borderline as possible
because she knew
that in that manner
the new state
would have been depended on her
after all, Albania
cut off the path of Serbia
towards the Adriatic
and simultaneously it prevented
Greece to expand on the coast.
That became obvious
at the Bucharest Conference
in July 1913
but also in the Treaty of London
in April 1915.
However things changed
with the Pact Venizelos – Tittoni
since with that secret
Italy had to support
the Greek claims regarding Northern Epirus
and Koritsa.
